Discover Amalfi Coastal Kitchen & Cocktails

Walking into Amalfi Coastal Kitchen & Cocktails at 32 Lighthouse Rd, Hampton Bays, NY 11946, United States feels like stepping into a relaxed slice of the Italian coast without leaving Long Island. I stopped by on a late summer evening after a day near the water, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The coastal breeze, the low hum of conversation, and the smell of fresh herbs coming from the kitchen set the tone before the first dish even hit the table.

From personal experience, the menu strikes a thoughtful balance between classic Italian comfort food and modern coastal cooking. Instead of overwhelming guests with endless options, the kitchen focuses on doing a smaller selection exceptionally well. The seafood-forward dishes stood out, especially the grilled branzino, which arrived perfectly flaky with crisp skin and a light citrus finish. I’ve eaten similar dishes in Naples and along the Amalfi Coast, and this version holds its own, relying on technique rather than heavy sauces.

The process behind the food matters here. According to the staff, ingredients are sourced fresh multiple times a week, with seafood deliveries timed around peak availability. This approach aligns with best practices recommended by the James Beard Foundation, which emphasizes seasonality and minimal handling to preserve flavor and texture. You can taste that philosophy in the pasta as well. The handmade rigatoni had just the right bite, a result of proper dough hydration and controlled cooking time, something many kitchens rush but this one clearly doesn’t.

Cocktails deserve equal attention. One bartender explained how their house spritz variations are built using measured ratios rather than free-pouring. That consistency shows. A limoncello-based cocktail I ordered tasted bright and balanced, not overly sweet, and paired well with both appetizers and mains. Research from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration has shown that balanced drink programs can significantly enhance perceived food quality, and this felt like a real-world example of that principle in action.

Reviews from regulars echo a similar theme: reliable quality and a welcoming atmosphere. Several locals I spoke with mentioned they return often because the kitchen maintains consistency even during busy weekends. That’s not easy in a coastal town where seasonal crowds can strain operations. The dining room team manages the flow well, spacing tables comfortably and keeping service attentive without hovering.

From an expertise standpoint, the culinary style reflects a strong understanding of Mediterranean cooking fundamentals. Olive oil is used thoughtfully, not excessively, and seasoning enhances rather than masks natural flavors. This aligns with nutritional research published by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, which highlights Mediterranean-style diets for their balance of fats, proteins, and fresh produce. While this is still a diner experience, the underlying principles elevate it beyond casual fare.

Location plays a big role in the appeal. Being situated in Hampton Bays makes it an easy stop for boaters, beachgoers, and locals alike. Parking is straightforward, and the proximity to the water adds to the relaxed coastal feel. That said, during peak summer months, wait times can stretch longer than expected, especially without a reservation. It’s a small limitation worth noting, though the staff is upfront about timing and does their best to accommodate.

Trust comes from transparency, and this restaurant does a solid job there. Menu descriptions accurately reflect what arrives at the table, portions are fair for the price point, and dietary questions are handled confidently. While no kitchen can guarantee against all allergens, their communication mirrors guidelines from the FDA on food safety and guest awareness.

Overall, the experience feels grounded and honest. It’s not trying to be overly trendy or theatrical. Instead, it focuses on good food, solid drinks, and a setting that makes you want to linger just a bit longer, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular checking in on the latest specials.

  • Food was really delicious but little overpriced. fried calamari, zucchini chips (don't miss), mussels, whole bronzino, pasta all were delicious. Drinks were also good but when you charge $20 for a cocktail it shouldn't come in a plastic cup service was also great all the waiters and valet guys are working hard to make sure everyone is happy. If prices were fair and drink was served in a glass cup it would definitely be a 5⭐

  • I’ve been curious about Amalfi for a while because it comes highly recommended by many of my friends. It didn’t disappoint! We visited on a gorgeous 72 degree day, not a cloud in the sky with a light breeze. The atmosphere and the view are simply perfect. The service was impeccable. Their cocktail menu is everything you could possibly want in an expertly curated cocktail. I enjoyed their “Private Plane to Amalfi” and the filet mignon sliders for lunch. The light reflecting off the water makes it the optimal spot to snap some stunning photos.

  • Dinner at Amalfi Hamptons felt like a little escape. Coastal, calm, and quietly luxurious. We started with the Sicilian Pizza Squares, with a choice of margherita or hot honey pepperoni ($21/$24). I chose the hot honey pepperoni. The sweetness of the honey came through more than the heat, but it was still flavorful and fun. 7.5 out of 10. The Chopped Salad ($22), made with iceberg, salami, mozzarella, chickpeas, roasted red peppers, and a red wine parmesan vinaigrette, was fresh, crisp, and satisfying. 8 out of 10. The Linguini Vongole ($38) was a standout. The cockles were fresh and tender. The sauce of garlic, chili, white wine, and parsley was incredible. Rich, buttery, briny, and beautifully balanced. 8.5 out of 10. The highlight of the night was the pistachio gelato. Smooth, nutty, and not too sweet. A true 10 out of 10. I would return just for that. Service was excellent. Warm, attentive, and thoughtful without being too present. The atmosphere was beautiful. Open-air dining with coastal elegance and a view that invites you to relax. Music played at the perfect volume, noticeable but never distracting. I ended the evening in stillness, letting the view and that last bite of gelato speak for themselves.

  • 10/10 recommend. The food and drinks were amazing, friendly staff and a beautiful view. They even had a DJ come out during Sunday brunch. I will definitely be back when I’m in the Hampton’s.

  • This is an amazing outdoor spot if the weather is cooperating with an unreal view of the bay. We had a party of 8 and all had a great experience. Everything from cocktails, appetizers, entrees, desert were delicious. I had their version of a spicy margarita which couldn’t have been better, and my dish was a crab pasta I was licking the plate clean. We don’t frequent the area much but if we were ever back I would make it a point to come here again. They also have valet parking which is a nice touch

  • Matt the waiter was a 10/10! He was personable and knowledgeable with the menu! Food and atmosphere.....such a vibe! We had the Tuna tacos and the octopus that was so tender! Zuchini flowers we could've done without as they lacked flavor. For our dinner entrees, my husband had the spicy shrimp pasta and I got the Lobster Francese special! Both were delicious!! We hung out afterwards to listen to a great band and it got so much busier as the night went on. We can't wait to go back. I hope that lobster franchese is on the menu again!!

  • Beautiful restaurant!! Love all the attention to detail. The food is delicious - so many amazing choices on the menu! Can’t beat the atmosphere! Kids were free to play outside while the adults enjoyed delicious cocktails (Peach Please and Hot and Bothered were the favorites at our table!) They accommodated us with 15 people on their beautiful patio! 10/10 recommend visiting this summer!
